The Piggy Grill Facebook Page : Taste Testers

I decided to launch a Facebook page for The Piggy Grill - I want to keep focus on recipes of sandwiches that will be tested by The Piggy Grill exclusive taste testers - just in case.

They will offer up their opinion on each sandwich - no cost to them other than taste-bud delight.

Home off the Grid-dle: The Beginning

I say dream big or don't dream at all and dreams of shedding the shackle of an apartment foundation for the life of a nomadic chef/vagabond became a reality when a friend asked me if I wanted to buy his motor home for $3000.00.

I thought $3000.00 and asked what condition was it in. Answer - very good condition. Answer from me - I'll buy it.

So I told my friend I needed to look at the motor home and to my surprise, it was in very good condition.

It is a 1980's 32' Travco motor home with oven, stove, refrigerator, freezer, built in ice maker and mixer. A very small shower, in a tight bathroom and a bedroom.

The decor is early 80's but like I said, the condition of the motor home is in very good condition for vacationing in.

However, I bought it for a residence/business so a major remodel is going to take place converting the motor home into a residence/food truck. And in effect, my license plate will become my address.

So the first order of business was to clean the dirt that had built up on the motor home over three years of setting still.

I cleaned most of the dirt build-up - in preparation of painting it next spring.

I also purchased some equipment to convert the kitchen into a commercial kitchen that would pass the Alaska DEC and Anchorage Municipality Health Department laws on Food Trucks.

I found out about an auction being held at Sam's Club by the Northway Mall and so while at lunch, I bid on-line and won the following equipment.

You have to have a hand sink so I purchased the portable hand sink that has a heater for hot water, tank for portable water and a tank for gray water. I also bought two convection ovens and the stainless steel table for about $485.00.

I purchased on Craigslist, an APW commercial soup warmer,  a Dogeroo commercial hot dog cooker for $200.00 and a commercial Jenn Air stainless steel grill for $200.00.

The motor on the Dogeroo was on its last leg so I purchased a new motor for $150.00.

And since I will be living/conducting a business out of the motor home,  for $478.00, I bought on Ebay a brand new Jacuzzi propane tankless water heater to supply hot water to the fixtures and in floor radiant heat I plan to install.

I did get an Alaska business license - The Piggy Grill and I had my 17 year old niece design my logo.

This is the beginning of being at home off the Grid---dle. And I expect to have the remodeling done by Spring.

There will be more to come as I start to demo the inside to prep for the installation of the radiant floor heat.
